In many parts of the country, winter is a slushy, wet bummer. It’s a time to hibernate in sweatpants and knock out your Netflix queue while waiting for spring to arrive. But in Breckenridge, winter is easily the most celebrated season of the year. Of course, the fact that we’re spoiled with loads of fresh powder and some of the most fun and challenging peaks in the Rockies doesn’t hurt.
Yes, winter in Breckenridge is the best. We absolutely love it. So much, in fact, that we host an entire festival dedicated to celebrating snow, tradition, and all of the fun that comes along with it. Ullr Fest returns to Breckenridge January 11th – 14th and the party is going to be bigger and better than ever before. We’re talking horned Viking hats, crazy parade participants, an enormous bonfire with blazing Christmas trees, and an invitation to plunge into the frozen depths of Maggie Pond.
It’s all happening this week, and we can’t wait to see the festivities get started. Here’s what you need to know about the event:
About Ullr Fest
Ullr Fest has been a Breckenridge tradition for more than half a century. It serves to bring everyone together to rejoice in the snowy, winter ski season. In Norse mythology, Ullr (pronounced Oool-er) was the winter god who loved the cold and delighted in traveling across the country on his skis or skates. You’ll sometimes hear locals praying to him when we need more fresh powder. The only thing Vikings loved as much as winter was partying, hence the lineup of fun events below.
