It’s technically still fall, but winter weather has arrived with a bang in Breckenridge. The mountain opened early, much to the delight of sports enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies everywhere. A couple of weeks later we got hit with a major snowstorm just in time for Thanksgiving travel!

It’s already been an eventful season here in Summit County, and things are just getting started. As we glide into the holiday season, there are tons of fun events going on in and around town that you absolutely won’t want to miss. Here’s your guide to Breckenridge holiday events 2018.

When: December 8, 2018

It’s a Breckenridge tradition! On December 8th, join hundreds of Santa look-alikes in a race through Breckenridge. Not a runner? No problem! You can walk, jog, skip, or even dance through the six-block course. Bring your own Santa suit or buy one at the Breckenridge Welcome Center (203 S. Main Street) for $7. Kids 12 and under can participate in the Reindeer Run.

Lighting of Breckenridge

When: December 8, 2018

Head to Blue River Plaza to watch Breckenridge transform into a sparkly winter wonderland. At 5pm, Santa flips the switch to light the Town Tree. Stick around afterwards for some cookies and cheer. Then, head to Old Masonic Hall (136 S. Main Street) for holiday-themed karaoke! How fun is that?

Dew Tour

When: December 13 – 16, 2018

Breck is the only winter stop of the Dew Tour and it’s always an awesome event. We’re talking five days of world-class skiers and snowboarders showing off their skills in superpipe, slopestyle, and team competitions. The tour competitions and the festival are free and open to the public! Make sure you stop by and catch some of the action. On Saturday, The Motet will headline a concert at the Riverwalk Center in downtown Breck (get tickets here).

New Year’s Eve

When: December 31, 2018

There’s no better place to ring in 2019! Breckenridge is one big celebration on New Year’s Eve. Grab a spot at The Maggie or Coppertop to watch the torchlight parade, a longstanding Breckenridge tradition, illuminate Peak 9. If you’re making a dinner reservation, do so around 7pm so you have enough time to see the spectacular firework show at 9 o’clock.
